YHSS Students and Teachers Explore Media Literacy with Experts

Bhutan Media Foundation was pleased to collaborate with Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School and the Yangchenphug HSS – Media Club to organize a thought-provoking panel discussion on the theme ‘Media is Powerful; Education Makes it More Purposeful’, held on 23 August 2025. The programme engaged 528 students, 130 teachers of the school and 20 officials.
The session sensitized the school community on media and information literacy (MIL), encouraged the development of a growth mindset, and guided students on how to navigate the digital space with purpose.
The event was graced by Dasho Passang Dorji, Deputy Chief of Royal Bhutan Police, who attended as the Chief Guest and a panelist. Other panelists included Ms. Tshering Denkar, vlogger at Denkars Getaway, Mr. Karma Dorji, Registrar of the ༄། །འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་ཡོངས་ཁྲིམས་དོན་གཙུག་སྡེ། Bhutan National Legal Institute, and the discussion was moderated by Mr. Phub Dorji, CEO of Nyingnor Data. Also, officials from BMF, the Bhutan Qualifications and Professionals Certification Authority, and the School Management Board took part in the programme.
The panel discussion explored perspectives on media and crime, media and law, media and career, as well as media as a vast platform for entertainment. A key highlight was the emphasis on how humans can harness social media, rather than being exploited by it, provided individuals use media responsibly and consume it critically. The panelists reiterated that education is a way to cultivate such awareness and discipline.
