October 20th, 2026

The Bhutan Media Foundation and YUMRA, in collaboration with the Department of Media, Creative Industry & Intellectual Property and the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority, will celebrate Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2026 from 24–31 October 2026, under the global theme: “We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People.”

The celebration aims to raise public awareness of the importance of MIL in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment, where misinformation, disinformation, AI-generated content, cyberbullying, and online safety are growing concerns.

Key Activities:

– Youth MIL Hackathon: Young people in Thimphu will collaborate to develop innovative, youth-led solutions to challenges such as misinformation, online safety, AI-generated content, and cyberbullying.

– MIL Digital Awareness Campaign: A short-form video, or reel making competition will invite school and college students to create engaging videos promoting responsible media use and digital citizenship.

– National Dialogue on ‘We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People’: The dialogue will bring together policymakers, media professionals, educators, youth, civil society, and other stakeholders to discuss Bhutan’s MIL journey, share recommendations, and explore ways to strengthen MIL nationwide.

– Official Launch of the ‘National Media and Information Literacy Strategy of Bhutan’ – A major milestone of the celebration will be the official launch of the National MIL Strategy of Bhutan Strategy, providing a framework for coordinated and sustained MIL efforts across the country.
