Social Media Literacy Training at Bajothang

August 24th, 2026

On 22 August 2026, we trained 30 more youth leaders in Wangdue Phodrang through our Social Media Literacy Training held at Bajothang.

This brings the number of youth leaders trained so far to 120 across Paro, Gelephu, Phuentsholing and Wangdue Phodrang under our project, “Strengthening Social Media Literacy among Youth Leaders,” running from July to September 2026 with the support of Accountability Lab, DDI South Asia awarded by CIVICUS.

But this is more than a training programme. It is about building a movement.

These trained youth leaders will become part of a growing National Network of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Trainers, equipped to support peer learning, create awareness materials and lead youth-led outreach in their communities.

Soon, they will be designing and implementing youth-led outreach initiatives and sharing communication materials on online safety, misinformation, responsible media and AI use, and credible information sharing. Together, these youth-led outreach initiatives across four districts are expected to reach more than 1,000 beneficiaries, creating a multiplier effect far beyond the training room.

Young people are among the most active users of digital platforms and are increasingly shaping conversations, communities and social change. Equipping them with the skills to question, verify and think critically about what they see and share online is therefore not just important—it is essential.

A big thank you to our partners and supporters: DDI South Asia, Accountability Lab, CIVICUS, Department of Education Programmes, MOESD, Sherig Bhutan, BAJO Youth Center, Dzongkhag Administration of Wangduephodrang, and all the participating youth leaders for your valuable support and active engagement.

Also, immense gratitude to Dr. Sourav Basu, Associate Professor, Norbuling Rigter College, for your wonderful sessions on Introduction to AI and Risks & Ethical Considerations in AI and also sharing some pictures of the training with us.

Together, we can build a generation of young digital citizens who don’t just consume information, but understand it, question it and use it responsibly.
