Strengthening Bhutan–Germany Friendship

We were honoured to host four members of the delegation from the Executive Board of the German Bhutan Himalaya Society at the Thimphu Press Club on 17 September 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives, strengthen friendship, and explore potential areas of collaboration between Bhutan and Germany, particularly in the fields of media and journalism.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Klaus Nawarotzky, a member of the German Bhutan Himalaya Society, and Dr. Tshering Samdrup for facilitating this meaningful meeting.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Rinzin Rinzin, Executive Director of Bhutan Transparency Initiative – BTI, and Rinzin Wangchuk, Executive Director of the Journalists’ Association of Bhutan.
About the German Bhutan Himalaya Society
The German Bhutan Himalaya Society (GBH Society) is one of the oldest friendship associations dedicated to strengthening relations between Germany and Bhutan. Its origins date back to 1984, when a group of Bhutan enthusiasts, led by Fritz Hermanns, then Chairman of the Board of the Cologne Stadtsparkasse, formed a circle of friends devoted to Bhutan.
On 11 March 1986, the group was formally established as the “Bhutan–Himalaya–Club e.V.”, with Fritz Hermanns serving as its first Chairman.
Registered as a non-profit association in the Cologne Association Register (VR 9286), the Society works to deepen public understanding of Bhutan, including its culture, people, and contemporary development. It also supports projects in the areas of culture, architecture, and social development.
