Narrative journalism, also known as new journalism, literary journalism, or longform journalism, enables journalists to tell complex and sensitive stories with empathy, creativity, and impact, while upholding the highest standards of accuracy and ethics. Participants found the workshop highly relevant and timely, as it provided tools to craft stories with empathy, creativity, and depth—qualities especially vital in today’s fast-paced media landscape.

This workshop is part of a regional initiative to strengthen the capacity of mid-career and senior journalists across South Asia in storytelling that blends factual accuracy with public-interest reporting. Similar workshops have been conducted in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, and following the Bhutan edition, the programme will continue in Sri Lanka and India.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the trainers from the Newsreel Asia and officials from the Canada in India (High Commission of Canada) for their invaluable support and for bringing this initiative to Bhutan.
