Training for CSOs and CBOs on media engagement 11 to 12 September 2025

We successfully completed our two-day training for civil society organizations (CSOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) on media engagement on September 12, 2025, in Paro, Bhutan. The training was supported by Helvetas Bhutan and funded by the EU in India as part of our project CSOs as Actors in Governance and Development. It brought together 17 participants from 13 CSOs and 4 CBOs.
The final day focused on practical communication skills, social media strategies, interview skills, and understanding how the media operates.
Highlights included:
- Social Media for Civil Society and CBOs : Phub Dorji, Nyingnor Data, led an interactive session on using social media for advocacy, outreach, and engagement. Participants explored strategies for impactful content, online community-building, and responsible digital use.
- Media Interview Skills : Mr. Sherub Dorji, former BBS TV reporter, shared techniques for handling interviews confidently, including preparation, body language, and managing difficult questions.
- Use of Social Media by CSOs : Mrs. Tandin Wangmo, Executive Director, Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy, offered real-life examples of how CSOs can go beyond information sharing to foster meaningful engagement and civic participation.
- How the Media Works: Mr. Rinzin Wangchuk, Executive Director, Journalists’ Association of Bhutan, provided insights into newsroom dynamics, editorial processes, and how CSOs can collaborate effectively with journalists.
Participants left with practical tools, enhanced skills, and new strategies to strengthen CSO–media relations and leverage both traditional and digital media for greater impact.
