First Round of Validation Workshop on Draft National Media and Information Literacy Strategy
November 7th, 2025
Today, 7 November 2025, the Bhutan Media Foundation (BMF), with funding support from UNESCO New Delhi Office, successfully conducted the first round of the Validation Workshop for the draft National Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Strategy at Thimphu Press Club.
This initiative, outsourced to Royal Thimphu College Professional Services, seeks to establish a coordinated, sustainable, and inclusive national approach to advancing MIL in Bhutan.
The workshop brought together key representatives from Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority- BICMA, Journalists’ Association of Bhutan, BBS, Kuensel, business bhutan, Bhutan Times, and Gyalchi Sarshog to review the draft strategy, validate its recommendations, refine policy and institutional frameworks, and build national consensus for its implementation.
Since April 2025, the process has involved desk research, an online survey, stakeholder consultations, and a high school debate competition. Insights gathered through these activities have guided the drafting of the National MIL Strategy, which provides a comprehensive roadmap for enhancing MIL across education, governance, civil society, and media sectors.
This workshop marks a key milestone in shaping a strategy that fosters informed citizenship, responsible digital engagement, and resilience against misinformation and harmful online content.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participants for their valuable insights and continued commitment to developing this national documentโensuring it aligns with Bhutanโs national priorities and UNESCOโs Global Framework on MIL.
