Day 2 of the five-day Training of Trainers on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for School Counsellors, being held in Punakha, focused on social media, its evolving landscape and current trends, as well as fake news, misinformation, and disinformation. The sessions were facilitated by Prof. (Dr.) Anubhuti Yadav, Head of the Department of New Media and Information Technology at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi.

Participants examined the role of social media in modern communication and civic engagement, exploring both the opportunities and risks associated with its use. The sessions also enhanced participants’ understanding of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, including their sources and modes of spread, while strengthening critical skills to identify, verify, and counter false information.

A total of 25 school counsellors are attending the training. The training is organized by the Bhutan Media Foundation, with support from the Department of Media, Creative Industry & Intellectual Property (DoMCIIP) through Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) funding, and in collaboration with the Department of Education Programmes, MOESD
